Moving to the 25th floor of Plaza Towers — a landmark pair of high-rise buildings in Buckhead — transformed my life.
Built in 1969, Plaza Towers were the first high-rise condominiums in Atlanta. They are understated and elegant and if you weren’t familiar with the location, you may miss them. The building’s website, PlazaTowersAtlanta.com , describes it best as “a hidden gem set back from the road among mature trees located on one of the most exclusive stretches of Buckhead’s renowned Peachtree Road”.
Built in the style of Mies van der Rohe, their minimalist modern design with 9 foot ceilings, wall-to-wall windows and balconies have stood the test of time. With the open and spacious floor plans, many of the units have undergone stunning renovations that are made even more spectacular by the tremendous views. The buildings are as popular today as they were when they were built. In fact, they are home to some of Atlanta’s top designers.
Yes, life in a high rise is a change, but it’s easy to get hooked. I don’t miss having to maintain the yard, blow the leaves, clean the gutters, take out the garbage – and I definitely don’t miss having to be concerned about security. You can just close your door and enjoy life. The buildings are well-run and established. The staff has been on site for years, and are devoted to serving the needs of the residents – they make a point of knowing everyone by name. If something breaks or doesn’t work, they arrive promptly to help.
The two towers offer a stunning array of views around the city and all of Atlanta’s neighboring mountains can be seen from the buildings. A beautiful paved brick entrance leads to an open parking area far larger than those of most other condominiums – there’s plenty of room for all of your guests. The walls are thick with only 2-4 units per floor providing great peace and quiet.
Plaza Towers’ corner location offers multiple ways of access- a real plus with Atlanta traffic. There is also a lending library, conference room, exercise facilityoverlooking a garden, and dog walk . The Plaza Room with catering kitchen hosts many large parties and meetings. Three nicely decorated guest rooms are available to be rented for a modest fee.
One of the best kept secrets about Plaza Towers is that it’s only a half block from one of Atlanta’s prettiest neighborhoods with lush trees, beautiful homes, and areas for walking. Add to this the “Duck Pond” and its park-like grounds, a lovely oasis for taking your children, reading a book or having a picnic. Few other buildings offer this winning combination of both a city and residential feeling along with the convenience and amenities of a high-rise .
With all this, how could residents of Plaza Towers not believe they live in the best building in town?
