What words come to mind when you think of fall? Pumpkins, Crisp cool air, leaves , Kettle Corn, apples- just to name a few.
From now on our family will associate fall with getting lost! This year we took a day trip up to Dawsonville to experience Uncle Shucks Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch. The kids had early release days from school last week so as soon as school was out drove up GA-400 to Dawsonville. As soon as we arrived and paid for our ticket we received a map of the corn-maze. The maze was designed in two connecting parts- with one part “easier” then the other- which is where we started, which was a perfect way to learn the ropes and get our bearings.
Along the way there are checkpoints- this is where you can punch your map card. If you can find all the checkpoints then you can register your card to win prizes. For us, the checkpoints were “sanity stations” where we could finally figure out where we were! Keep in mind, you are on a path surrounded by tall corn stalks- and other then the two bridges along the way, there is no other way to see over the stalks to find your way!
Before entering the maze I was a little concerned the kids would lose interest or get too tired to continue, but just the opposite. Once we found one check point they were so excited about making it the next- and we had great laughs together as we hit checkpoint 10 about 3 times! It was fascinating to see each of them take a lead- and to navigate us to victory. We did this during the bright light of day- and it was a challenge. Several along the way told us we must try it at night- with flashlights! Maybe next year!
Uncle Shucks also offers a Hayride, a Bonfire at night as well as other activities great for the kids: feeding the goats, a kiddie maze for the real little ones as well as a pumpkin patch!
