The January edition of Points North outlines 25 things you must do in 2011- a very handy guide to make sure you don’t miss the best Atlanta will offer this year. Consider it your 2011 Atlanta Bucket list.
Just happens that this month five of the 25 are taking place, and all five run this weekend.
1. Fly to Neverland. Peter Pan, the boy who never grew up, has taken children and adults alike to Neverland for years, but never before like this. This special production of JM Barrie’s “Peter Pan” allows audiences to go deeper into the timeless story at the threesixty° Theatre in Pemberton Place (between the World of Coke and the Georgia Aquarium), the world’s first 360-degree CGI theater. Performances begin Jan. 21, so get your tickets today! To purchase tickets visit www.peterpantheshow.com or call 888-772-6849.
2. Support Local Art. Historic Norcross is known for more than its history, antebellum homes and charming restaurants; it also has a fantastic arts scene, and its local filmmakers are especially talented. On Jan. 22 from 7 to 9:30 p.m., the Norcross Arts Alliance presents a free Filmmakers’ Showcase featuring several local filmmakers’ work in the Norcross Cultural Arts & Community Center. Afterwards, you’ll even have the chance to interact with the men and women behind the movies! For more information, please visit www.aplacetoimagine.com or www.norcrossartsalliance.org.
3.Discover Life in Black & White. Ansel Adams captivated the world his entire career with breathtaking black and white images of landscapes in the American West. To showcase his work, the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville is hosting “Ansel Adams: The Legacy,” the museum’s largest temporary exhibition to date. Visitors can view some of Adams’ most famous photographs — and some rarities — now through Feb. 20. For more information, please call 770-387-1300 or visit www.boothmuseum.org. 4.Experience Dreams Bald and Blue. The Blue Man Group will take your breath away from the first beat of their engrossing show. As you exit the Fabulous Fox Theatre gasping, you’ll think you’d just had a vivid dream. So alive is their theatrical performance, a blend of music, comedy and multimedia, that Jan. 18 – 23 doesn’t seem a long enough stay. Get your tickets soon as this show will sell out! To purchase your tickets, call 800-982-2787 or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
5.Enjoy the Silver Lining of Life. Barnsley Gardens Resort’s Winter Wine Series has enthralled patrons for the past six years with wines from some of the finest vineyards in the United States in an intimate, communal-style setting. Kicking off this year’s series, which begins on Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. and runs monthly through March, Silver Oak Cellars wine will be paired with a succulent menu for only $195 per person.
