Stage: Get the story behind the witches of Oz in the tuneful musical “Wicked.” The touring show returns to Atlanta for a four-week run, playing at the Fox Theatre through Oct. 9. Check out our interview with Mark Jacoby, the Tennessee native and one-time Atlantan who plays the Wizard.
Stage: Atlanta Lyric Theatre presents “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” a musical trip back to the 1920s. The show opens Sept. 16 and continues through Oct. 2 at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre in Marietta.

Festival: A pet parade, a car show, an artists market and entertainment too please all ages keep fest fans coming back to the Sandy Springs Festival year after year. The fun begins at Sandy Springs’ Heritage Green at 9 a.m. Sept. 17 and 18.
Festival: The Gwinnett Center in Duluth hosts JapanFest, an annual celebration of Japanese culture, now in its 25th year and the largest event of its kind in the Southeast. The event begins at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 and 18.
Festival: 200 painters, photographers, leather and metal craftsmen, glass blowers and more will gather in Piedmont Park this weekend for the 5th annual Atlanta Arts Festival. The fest happens 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sept. 17 and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 18.
