Glenwood Park is an urban mixed-use development two miles east of downtown Atlanta, just south of Interstate-20, between Ormewood Park and Grant Park, at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Bill Kennedy Way. Founded in 2003 as a model community featuring environmental sustainability and New Urban design, Glenwood Park started life as an abandoned 28-acre brownfield site. The site was ideal for a sensible, Smart Growth, urban in-fill development. Its unique, award winning urban design and high quality architecture have attracted a wonderful community of residents dedicated to a sustainable urban living experience.
Within Glenwood Park you will find approximately 300 total residential units, including detached single-family homes, traditional and stacked townhouses, live/work units and condominiums. In addition, there is approximately 20,000 square feet of office space and approximately 48,000 square feet of retail space – all built with 100% EarthCraft construction. The area is served by public schools Parkside Elementary, King Middle, and Maynard Jackson High School. Nearby charter schools include Grant Park Charter and Imagine Wesley Charter Schools.
The commercial center of Glenwood Park has retail stores that serve the practical everyday needs of Glenwood Park and its surrounding neighborhoods. Because of its unique character, rare good urbanism, and easy access, it is also attracting businesses that are a destination for citizens of the entire metro area and beyond. The current base of business includes restaurants, music class studio, salon, 24 hour gym, pediatrics doctor, smoothie shop, dentist office, framing shop, and cleaners. Some of the most popular Glenwood Park eateries include Vickery’s, Matador Cantina and The Shed at Glenwood. Glenwood Park’s proximity to Downtown, Midtown, and the Airport are extremely convenient. Grady Hospital, one of the top trauma hospitals in the country, is located in nearby Downtown Atlanta.
In addition to the commercial center, Glenwood Park offers many other recreational spaces and amenities. In the center of Glenwood Park you will find one large public park (Brewer Park), one off-leash dog park, and two smaller public squares. Popular gathering areas also include the Glenwood Park Pool and the bocce ball court on Brasfield Square. Also neighboring Grant Park is a very easy walk, jog, or bike ride away. The community also sits on the developing Atlanta Beltline, which will connect green spaces surrounding the city of Atlanta. Several festivals, including the City of Atlanta’s 2008 Earth Day Festival, Hoptoberfest Beer Festival, and EarthShare of Georgia’s Party in the Park have all been staged at Glenwood Park.
Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty Intown agent Robert Blaha enjoys Glenwood Park because “it is truly an intown mixed use community with not only all different types of living options but also the residents themselves that make up the community. Being walkable to so much it feels like a little self contained village.”
