Brookhaven is located in zip code 30319, northeast of Buckhead, and was the first community in Georgia designed around a golf course. Brookhaven includes a number of smaller neighborhoods, including Historic Brookhaven and Ashford Park. Encompassing parts of both Fulton and Dekalb Counties, areas north and east of Historic Brookhaven within Dekalb County are sometimes referred to as Brookhaven, and are included in discussions of a proposed City of Brookhaven (as of 2011).
Atlanta residents began constructing ‘summer cottages’ in the area around 1900. Circa 1910, 150 acres on the north side of Peachtree Road was purchased for development of a planned community surrounding a golf course. An initial nine-hole course opened in 1912 and the residential development was done in three phases, which was mostly completed by the early 1940s. As one of Atlanta’s older neighborhoods, it truly has a luxurious suburban feel, with its winding streets and beautifully maintained homes on large estate sized lots. However, its convenient location offers an urban flair with access to everything one might need.
Throughout the greater Brookhaven area you will find single-family homes, townhomes, and condominiums all at different price points with a different feel. Depending on where you are in Brookhaven, the school districts vary. The Fulton County side is served by top City of Atlanta Public Schools, Sarah Smith Elementary, Sutton Middle and North Atlanta High Schools. The Dekalb side is served by Ashford Park Elementary, Chamblee Middle School and Chamblee High School, which will operate from a brand new facility beginning in 2013. This area is centrally located with numerous private school options accessible as well.
Brookhaven is located just north of the thriving Buckhead Business District and offers convenient access to downtown Atlanta, the Perimeter Business District, and both the Northside Hospital and Piedmont Hospital areas. The I-85 and GA-400 interstates are also nearby, offering many other options. The Northside Hospital area is only minutes away to the North, offering a wide array of medical facilities and options, including St. Joseph’s Hospital, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and numerous medical offices in the surrounding area. The Piedmont Hospital area is located to the South, with its corresponding facilities and specialties nearby. Just moments away from both Lenox Mall and Phipps Plaza you will find shopping and dining options for everyone. Buckhead is adjacent to Brookhaven, with its seemingly unlimited array of fine dining opportunities.
