Smyrna is located in Cobb County, just northwest of metro Atlanta, outside of I-285 and north of I-20.  Its convenient location is about 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta and 20 minutes from Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. Known in some areas of the city as “Smynings,” it is mostly suburban but with a growing town center. Having been awarded the Urban Land Institute’s Award for Excellence due to its careful city planning, the vibrancy of the town center can be seen in Smyrna’s Village Green and the Market Square.

The main area of business in Smyrna is the Smyrna Market Village and businesses also line Cobb Parkway. Cumberland Mall is also nearby. Shopping can range from boutiques to nationally known chains. In the past few years, Smyrna/Smynings has become a destination for many due to its fine dining restaurants.  Bella’s Pizzeria is considered an Atlanta favorite while Muss & Turner’s is a gastro-pub with gusto.  Just across the I-285 bridge in Vinings is Social Vinings with vibrant and delicious fare. Within Smyrna is the Emory-Adventist Hospital located on South Cobb Drive, but the major hospitals that Atlanta is known for (Piedmont Hospital, Northside Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Hospital) are just a hop, skip and a jump away assuming traffic is on your side.

Smyrna is an area filled with parks and recreational opportunities. One of Smyrna’s best public parks is Taylor-Brawner Park. Situated on the former estate of a hospital, the main building (Brawner Hall) has been renovated for community events, classes, and receptions. The park includes a playground, amphitheater, large old-growth trees and a lovely sidewalk lined with swings and benches. Also found in Smyrna are several trailheads for Georgia’s famous Silver Comet Trail. The trail itself is on a reclaimed paved railroad track, ensuring few inclines along the 61-mile route. Smyrna residents are active, as you see them walking, jogging, and biking on a regular basis.

Smyrna is a truly walkable city and is quite progressive. Also known as the “Jonquil City” due to the many thousands of Jonquils that bloom in the springtime in the area, Smyrna is convenient to Atlanta’s favorite hotspots. With affordable housing and the abounding opportunities, Smyrna is an ideal Atlanta neighborhood!
