Melissa Payne Baker is an Atlanta based artist. Growing up in a family of artists in Mississippi, creativity was a part of her life from an early age. Her Mother likes to say that they have paint running through their veins, not blood. In Melissa’s case the paint runs thick!
With a degree in Marketing from the University of Mississippi and a passion for interior design, her interests mesh together well. Melissa has perfected various color, medium and texture techniques to create her individual style shown in her work. She is known for her striking color palettes and thick texture. “I hope in my paintings, collectors can see the love I have for life. I paint with my heart and soul. I get excited once a painting is complete; it is like meeting a new friend.” Like a true artist, she views her paintings as an extension of herself. The heart and soul of her work is derived from everyday life and experiences. Some of her paintings have stories behind them, but most convey emotions or feelings that touch the viewer.
Melissa has been in many publications including Creative Loafing Magazine, Cobb Life Magazine, Skirt Atlanta and Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles. She was voted Atlanta’s Best Emerging 2010 Artist in Creative Loafing and Best Atlanta Artist 2011 in Atlanta Magazine. She was the 2011 featured artist for Fine Art in Brentwood at Brentwood Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. Melissa has been a featured artist at the Atlanta Symphony Decorators’ Show House 2008-2010, Trinity Spotlight on Art at Trinity School and Saks Fifth Avenue Gallery 2007-2011 to High Museum of Art High Arts Day in 2010-2011. She will be published in CRAVE Atlanta Spring 2012, a book showcasing successful businesswomen.
