Rising to fame over the past year, Golden Globe award-winning actress Jessica Chastain has bought a new home.
The Real Deal reported that Chastain paid $1.2 million for a two-bedroom unit in New York. The co-op apartment at 250 Mercer Street in Greenwich Village, first hit the market in February asking for $1.49 million, but its price was later chopped to $1.39 million.
Listed by Christopher Au, Meg Siegel and Rachel Siegel of Sotheby’s International Realty, Chastain was represented by Sarah Schlisser and Isaac Halpern of Halstead Property.
The Mercer Street building, is located on the corner of West 4th Street, and is one of the Village’s largest co-op known for its liberal board policies.
According to The Real Deal, the listing for the award winning actress’s new apartment mentioned features such as a custom-built wooden staircase, a wood burning fireplace and vaulted ceilings.
The actress is known for her role as Celia Foote in the award winning movie “The Help,” which is about the treatment of maids in a Mississippi town during the civil rights era. It took top honors at the 84th Academy Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards and the MTV Movie Awards.
Chastain also played a lead role alongside Brad Pitt in Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life” last year, and is set to star in “Mama,” a horror film produced by Guillermo Del Toro, in 2013.
