FRIDAY
Festival: Enjoy some unusual competition at the Stone Mountain Highland Games & Scottish Festival, which happens Oct. 19-20 at Stone Mountain Park.

Festival: Join the artists, craftspeople and musicians at Emerson Art and Crafts Fair on Oct. 19 and 20 at Emerson Unitarian Universalist in Marietta.

Festival: Get your fill of great entertainment and awesome food at the annual Cumming Greek Festival, happening Oct. 19-21 at Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church in Cumming.

Halloween: Relive your worst nightmares in the smoke-filled, strobe-lit darkness at Frightmore, which continues through Oct. 31 at 1912 Mt. Zion Road, Building 1865 C, in Morrow.

Halloween: Imagine being cast in a zombie flick as humans chased by the undead. Now in its third year, Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse transforms a sprawling abandoned truck stop into a haunted attraction. Catch the brain-eaters at Safety Wolf Recreation Outpost in Conley through Oct. 31.

Halloween: Chambers of Horror Haunted House is Atlanta’s adults-only haunted house and was rated No. 13 must-see haunt in the nation by Horror Attraction Magazine. See it at 8 p.m. nightly through Nov. 3 at the Masquerade.

Halloween: Head to the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw for their annual “Haunted Museum: Night at the Asylum” event. The spooky event takes place Oct. 19 and 20.

Halloween: Cagle’s Family Farm in Canton teems with fall fun, with both a Corn Maze and the Haunted Barn. The Haunted barn is opens Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 27. The Corn Maze is open Fridays-Sundays through Nov. 11.

Comedy: Funnyman George Wallace comes to the Buckhead Theatre at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 for the Atlanta Childhood Obesity Benefit.

Dance: Project 7 Contemporary Dance Company presents “EquiLIFTrium,” a piece inspired by human connections, at 8 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center.

Stage: See the original stage show that inspired the cult movie as Next Stage Theater presents “The Rocky Horror Show.” It opens Oct. 19 and continues through Nov. 3 at Next Stage Theatre’s Alley Stage in Marietta.

Stage: The Alliance Theater presents the premiere of Alfred Uhry’s new play “Apples and Oranges.” It continues through Oct. 28.

Stage: Georgia Shakespeare revisits the 1936 Orson Welles production of “Macbeth,” which moved the action to the Caribbean with an all African-American cast. The show runs through Oct. 28 on the Oglethorpe University campus.

Stage: “Lovecraft’s Nightmares” offers a different story written by or inspired by the master of classic horror, H. P. Lovecraft, each weekend in October. Presented by the Atlanta Radio Theater Company through Oct. 28 at the Academy Theater in Avondale Estates.

Stage: Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal” explores the seven-year infidelity of married couple Emma and Robert and their “close friend” Jerry. It runs through Oct. 28 at Aurora Theater in Lawrenceville.

Stage: The Center for Puppetry presents the final performances of its annual Halloween special “The Ghastly Dreadfuls: The Last Ghast.” It runs through Oct. 27.

Stage: Center Stage North presents Alfred Uhry’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Driving Miss Daisy.” It continues through Oct. 21 at the Art Place —Mountain View in Marietta.

Stage: A beloved cult classic gets a makeover with “The Rocky Horror Puppet Show.” It’s at the Basement Theatre in Buckhead through Oct. 27.

Festival, holiday: Stone Mountain Park’s 10th Annual Pumpkin Festival features a pie eating contest, costume dance party and trick-or-treat scavenger hunt. The event runs through Oct. 28.

Halloween: It isn’t even October, but that doesn’t mean we have to wait for Halloween scares. Netherworld Haunted House is already going strong and the award-winning haunt will continue through Nov. 3 at the Georgia Antique and Design Center in Norcross.

Stage: A writer revisits several old girlfriends before his upcoming nuptials in Neil LaBute’s “Some Girl(s).” The Pinch ‘n’ Ouch Theatre production runs through Oct. 21.

Stage: “Daddy’s Dyin’ Who’s Got the Will,” by Del Shores (”Sordid Lives”), is a fast-paced comedy about a Texas family gathering to await the imminent death of their patriarch. The OnStage Atlanta production continues through Oct. 20.

SATURDAY

Halloween, festival: Little Five Points has been keeping Atlanta weird for decades, and the Little Five Points Halloween Festival and Parade is one sure way to make sure it stays freaky. The music begins at noon Oct. 20 and the parade starts at 4 p.m. in the neighborhood surrounding Moreland and Euclid avenues.

Festival: The leaves are turning and the apples are coming in so it must be time for the annual Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay. It’s happening Oct. 13-14 and 20-21.

Pets, competition: Don’t miss the fantastic canine athletes displaying their skills at the Disc Dog World Finals 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 20-21 in Cartersville’s Dellinger Park.

Festival: Enjoy two days of music, art and more at the Brookhaven Arts Festival, which takes place Oct. 20- 21 at Apple Valley Park.

Festival: See work by 75 regional artists along with live music, entertainment, food and more at the AutumnFest in Avondale Estates Oct. 20-21.

Festival: Get a touch of the West right here in Georgia at the Southeastern Cowboy Festival & Symposium. It’s happening Oct. 20-28 at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville.

Festival, pets: There will be a costumed dog parade and treats for human and animal at Howl-o-Ween, a fundraiser for Pets Are Loving Support, which begins at 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at Renaissance Atlanta Midtown. Admission is free, but pet food donations are appreciated. RSVP in advance for a $25 10-minute photo session with your pet (at alecia@alecialaurenphotography.com).

Festival: Watch the balloons inflate and glide across the North Georgia sky at the Harvest Balloon Festival. It begins at 3 p.m. Oct. 20 at Sterling on the Lake in Flowery Branch.

Festival, Halloween: Cochran Mill Nature Center in Palmetto celebrates the spooky fall season with a Halloween Hayride & Family Festival beginning at 5 p.m. Oct. 20.

Dance: Sugarloaf Performing Arts revisits the boy who didn’t want to grow up with “Peter Pan Ballet” at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center in Duluth.

Stage: The election season wouldn’t be complete without a visit from the tuneful political humorists of the Capitol Steps. They’ll perform at the Rialto Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. Oct. 20.

SUNDAY

Festival, pets: Boxerstock Music Festival is a dog-tacular benefit for Atlanta Boxer Rescue. It starts at noon Oct. 21 at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta.

Festival, pets: Strut Your Mutt Picnic and Party is sponsored by FurKids and Small Dog Rescue and happens noon-4 p.m. Oct. 21 on the Heritage Green in Sandy Springs.

Music: Costumes are encouraged as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra presents “Halloween on Hogwarts,” performing music from the Harry Potter films at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Atlanta Symphony Hall.

Music: Atlanta Concert Band pays homage to that classical music-loving rabbit with “A Tribute to Bugs Bunny.” The concert begins at 4 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Southern Company Amphitheater at Centennial Olympic Park.

Music: The Choral Guild of Atlanta performs early English music, including works by William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, John Dowland and Thomas Morley. The program begins at 4 p.m. Oct. 21 at Northside Drive Baptist Church.
