From fine dining and shopping to historical landmarks and cultural events, Atlanta offers its residents plenty to do during their downtime. However, nothing quite beats a quiet afternoon on the golf course or a hardcore workout on the tennis court. Thankfully, the city is home to some of the most sought-after country clubs in the United States.
1. Cherokee Town and Country Club
Cherokee Town and Country Club offers two locations: the Town Club in Buckhead on West Paces Ferry and the Country Club in nearby Sandy Springs. Founded in 1956, the private club is open through invitation only. Members can take advantage of two golf courses (including the par 71 South Course and par 72 North Course), a driving range, practice greens, a pool, a fitness center with personal training, multiple tennis courts and beautiful club house facilities where you can host private events. Both properties are beautifully landscaped so that you feel as if you are somewhere far away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
2. Druid Hills Golf Club
The private Druid Hills Golf Club has been a fixture in Atlanta’s popular Druid Hills neighborhood since 1912. The 18-hole par 72 course has a peaceful, natural appeal unlike anything else in the city, and it underwent a major renovation in 2003. It also features a practice area and driving range, individual and group pro lessons are available and it hosts the Dogwood Invitational each year. The tennis facility features four hard and seven clay courts, as well as a pro shop. Other amenities include a fitness center with personal training, three pools, a kids’ area, massage therapy and private dining.
3. Capital City Club
The Capital City Club is one of the oldest private clubs in the South. Chartered in 1883, its members have included numerous notable Atlanta residents, ranging from Asa Chandler, the founder of Coca-Cola to golf great Bobby Jones. The original facility is located on West Brookhaven Drive, while a new facility, built in 2001, sits north of the city in Woodstock, Georgia. It features a par 72 18-hole Tom Fazio-designed course and often hosts events like the NCAA Men’s Division I Southeast Regional and National Championships. The Club is known for its beautiful historic facilities that are ideal for private events.
4. Ansley Golf Club
While many of Atlanta’s top clubs are located in Buckhead or suburbs north of the city, Ansley Golf Club sits in the heart of Midtown’s Ansley Park neighborhood. Since its founding in 1912, it has earned a reputation for being Atlanta’s most family-friendly private club. The club has two golf courses: a vintage 9-hole course at its Midtown location that Sports Illustrated once ranked as one of the top five in the United States, as well as the newer rural Settindown Course in Roswell, which Golf Digest calls the best in the state of Georgia. The Club also features a pro shop, nine tennis courts, fitness and aquatics facilities and plenty of kid-friendly activities and events.
