Buckhead residents have a new place to exercise and enjoy the great outdoors. The PATH400 Greenway Trail is officially open for use in 2015, or, at least, phase one is. The completed path will eventually be about 5.2 miles long and ranges from 10 to 14 feet wide along the way, meaning there is plenty of space for dog-walkers, joggers, bikers and skaters to take advantage of the beautiful Georgia weather.
The completed first phase of PATH400 starts nears the intersection of Lenox Road and Tower Pace Drive and runs about half a mile to Old Ivy Road. It also runs along Georgia 400. Since it opened in January 2015, residents have already given it their stamp of approval.
More Phases Yet to Come
The second phase of the trail is expected to open by the end of 2015 and will connect Old Ivy with Wieuca Road, followed by a third phase that connects Sidney Marcus to Miami Circle that will be completed in 2016. By 2017, the fourth phase will connect Wieuca to Mountain Way Common. It will eventually connect North Buckhead to Morningside and run through 27 different Atlanta neighborhoods.
The Buckhead Community Improvement District calls the trail the “spine of Buckhead’s Trails and Greenways Subsystem, part of the Buckhead Collection, connecting parks, trails, schools and neighborhoods to the urban core of Buckhead and ultimately to the Atlanta BeltLine.” The Buckhead Collection will connect over 106 acres of neighborhood parks, dog parks, greenways, trails, historic sights, plazas and other greenspaces together to help Buckhead remain one of the most desirable places to live in the world.
