Atlanta Neighborhoods On The Rise

Atlanta and its metro area are home to hundreds of great neighborhoods, and each one offers something for everyone. Most people in the area are familiar with the old favorites, but which neighborhoods are becoming increasingly popular with homebuyers?

Atlanta Neighborhoods on the Rise

1. East Atlanta

East Atlanta has received plenty of attention in 2015 for being one of the top neighborhoods on the rise, not just in Atlanta, but in the entire United States. Located south and west of Interstate 20 and east of Moreland Avenue, its southern boundary runs just south of Bouldercrest Drive. Low prices —the median sales price for a home is just under $250,000, and home values are on the rise — and proximity to businesses and entertainment are major attractions.
The historic neighborhood’s roots date back to the Civil War, but over the last decade it has undergone major revitalization. Many of the homes have been remodeled. Trendy shops and restaurants moved to the area. Millennials see it as an attractive and affordable place to live within the Atlanta city limits without paying the higher prices associated with neighborhoods in Buckhead and Midtown.

2. Virginia-Highland

Virginia HighlandVirginia-Highland has always been one of Atlanta’s most popular neighborhoods, but in recent years, efforts to preserve and revitalize the community have resulted in an increase in home values and an influx of new residents looking for a unique, yet peaceful place to live without adding hours to their commute times. Most homes in Virginia-Highland were built during the early 1900s, and the average sales price is just over $600,000.

Local media outlets, like Atlanta magazine and Creative Loafing, have awarded Virginia-Highland with honors such as “Atlanta’s Best Neighborhood” and “Atlanta’s Best Walkable Neighborhood” in recent years. Walkability plays a major role in what attracts newcomers to the area. The trendy commercial districts, artsy vibe, excellent schools and socially active residents are also reasons why people love the community. Virginia-Highland is north of Poncey-Highland, west of Druid Hills, east of Piedmont Park, and south of Morningside.

3. East Lake

East Lake is the easternmost neighborhood in Atlanta, and it sits south of Pharr Road and north of Glenwood Avenue. It is also one of the city’s most historic neighborhoods, and many of the houses there were building between the 1900s and 1940s. The neighborhood was once the home of many notable Atlanta residents, and over the last decade or so, it has experienced growth and revitalization. The average home sells for between $250,000 and $300,000, and they go quickly in this competitive market.

East Lake’s most notable attraction is probably the East Lake Golf Club which welcomes the PGA Tour Championship each year. Proximity to trendy shops and restaurants, one of the city’s top charter schools and Downtown’s attractions and businesses make East Lake a popular place to live for both millennials and young families.
