Happy #TravelTuesday, Atlanta! This week we’re whisking away to the Greek island of Corfu. Located just off the mainland in the Aegean Sea, this island wears the mantle of its colorful Venetian history with style. Tall mansions display ancient coats of colored paint, blurred by successive winters and giving visitors to the town the feeling of stepping into a watercolor painting.

On the sophisticated northeastern side of the island lies Venetian Times, a Corfu landmark dating back to Venetian rule in the 18th century. Originally built as a fortress to guard the sea between Corfu and Albania, this impressive estate boasts unrivaled panoramic views of the gleaming water and lush inland valleys, carpeted with wildflowers and studded with gnarled olive trees and dense groves of swaying cypresses.

The main house presents a blend of Venetian, Corfiot and English influences in its architecture and decor. Entirely restored in the late 20th century, the estate offers comfortable, contemporary living while still preserving the house’s history and serene Mediterranean beauty.

Mature Mediterranean gardens surround the villa, and along the coastal side of the garden, the now rare Mediterranean maquis pervades the air with its scent. On the seafront, an exquisite infinity pool is surrounded by broad patios perfect for sunbathing. Pathways lead through the stands of tall trees which provide refreshing shade.

An inconspicuous gate in the garden wall directly accesses the jetty of the neighboring harbor. The garden is planted with a wide variety of magnolia, jacaranda, cypress, lemon and orange trees.

The house is fully serviced and can sleep 12 people. The main living area is on the first floor and consists of two double and three twin en suite bedrooms. The main house also includes a  sitting room, study, kitchen, veranda and sea front terraces. At sea level there is a separate apartment, ideal for staff.

The separate apartment is at sea level and can sleep four people. It offers two twin rooms, a shower, a bathroom, a kitchen and a sitting room with satellite TV and air conditioning. The full-sized kitchen is perfect for guests’ use.

The estate comprises a two-story building, currently leased as a taverna, and guest cottages. The guest cottages, located on a small road outside of the main gates, offer a total of five en suite bedrooms and two kitchenettes.

An additional, newly built stone guesthouse, which reflects the turret style of the main house, offers a top-floor bedroom area with living space downstairs. This would make the perfect painting studio or music room, or simply extra guest accommodation.
