Happy Diwali!

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is India’s largest, most important day of the year. The holiday is celebrated by putting beautiful, colorful lights outside the home to symbolize inner light protecting people from spiritual darkness. It is celebrated by both Hindu and non-Hindu communities around the region.

While the festival is the biggest and most well-known event, it occurs on the third day of the Diwali season which is celebrated over the course of five days. There are days of cleaning, decorating, feasting and visiting loved ones! If you’re wanting to celebrate Diwali in Atlanta, there are several options you can partake in!

Join BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir for their Atlanta Diwali celebration! Enjoy the grand festival of lights, Chopda Pujan and fireworks. The event is held Sunday, October 27 at 460 Rockbridge Road.

The day after Diwali, the Hindu New Year begins. This holiday is traditionally celebrated with the Annakut, which literally means a mountain of food. Over a thousand thals, which are vegetarian delicacies, are prepared to express thankfulness for the past year and to bless the new year ahead. You can celebrate at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir on Monday, October 28.
