Cathy comes from a long line of homebuilders on her father’s side. Her father moved her family from Ohio to Atlanta when she was turning five years old. He was to start up a new division for a large national homebuilder. Eventually, her father would start up his own company in the metro Atlanta area. Cathy spent most weekends visiting his job sites, learning about the construction process and what quality looks like.
Cathy graduated from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) with a degree in interior design and marketing. She accepted a job right out of school with a commercial relocation firm assisting the design team. After a couple of years, Cathy had grown a passion for following in her father’s footsteps and became the seventh-generation homebuilder and the first female in the line of her father’s history. She succeeded in the custom building market because of her attention to detail, listening to her client’s needs and the mutual respect with the trades she employed. Cathy was President and Chief Operating Officer of Spohntown Building Company, LLC for 15 years and was licensed in 2004. She earned the highly respected Professionalism Award given by the Atlanta Homebuilders Association in her price point three times.
Cathy eventually felt the need to be at home with her two small children and stepped away from the business in 2008. She still advised on the home design process and bought several investment properties to lease and sell. Cathy and her father retired the building company in 2015, and she spent the next couple of years with him as he bravely fought a hard battle with leukemia. After his passing, the passion remained, but she decided to invest her talents in another role. She acquired her real estate license during the covid pandemic, researched agencies carefully and found her home at Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty. She brings expert knowledge of the construction process and a commitment to strive for the very best service for her clients. The pleasure Cathy receives above all is seeing her clients’ reaction when they walk into a house and realize they have found their home and the day they can start their new chapter closing on the investment that created many wonderful memories.
With her two children grown and on their own, she’s enjoying her empty nest with her two rescue fur kitties, Lucy and Luna. She spends some of her time volunteering at Furkids Animal Rescue and Shelter, trying new restaurants and anything outdoors. Cathy is scuba open water, rescue and nitro certified, and one of her many bucket list adventures is swimming with the whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium.
