A Greenville, South Carolina native, Pat McNamara spent his childhood roaming the Piedmont and the foothills of the Upstate in South Carolina. Knowing it was home and where he wanted to live and raise a family, he stayed in the area after graduating from Clemson University and started his career in real estate, working for a land speculator. Although he quickly moved into representing clients as an agent, he had absorbed significant skills—how to assess dimensions, read topography, look at transportation corridors and neighboring uses, evaluate the availability of utilities and surface water and how to present and market land to the public.
In 1996, he put those skills to work and founded The McNamara Company, providing commercial and industrial real estate services in the Upstate and North Carolina mountains. His business included retail, office, industrial and development properties before he finally decided to focus on land brokerage. In 2002, he became a co-owner of the Carolina Land Company and, in this position, has helped represent both buyers and sellers of tracts of land (from one to 1,000 acres) for investment, agriculture, homesteads, hunting, timber and development. Specializing in the “edge of growth and out,” with the resources to provide a natural flow of services from North Georgia to South Carolina, he is an expert in connecting the right buyers with the land that meets their needs.
Pat simply loves the Southeast and the outdoors and has a passion for attracting the right investors to the area. With licenses in both South Carolina and Georgia and the influence and resources offered through Sotheby’s International Realty®, he offers an unmatched level of exposure for both sides of a transaction. When you work with Pat, he brings 38 years of experience and local knowledge and connections to your search, whether you are looking to sell or to invest. From professional photography to exposure on land listing sites to direct email marketing and being present personally for showings, Pat knows the business inside and out and cares about his clients as well as the land itself.
He is proud to be a part of transactions involving conservation groups and especially enjoys helping young couples find a homestead property for starting a family—in both cases, he knows the land will be embraced and will look very much the same 30 years from now. When he’s not working with clients, you can find him outside—camping, hiking, boating, maintaining his own five-acre homestead complete with blueberries and a vineyard, making furniture or traveling. He is married to the former Beth Phillips and is the proud father of three girls and one boy and the proud grandfather of three grandsons.
