Laurie Nickless is a native of Atlanta and grew up in the suburbs of Dunwoody, Smyrna and Vinings. She attended Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and then finished her bachelor’s degree at the University of Georgia with a major in World War II history and a minor in Civil War history.
She began her real estate career working for a builder right out of college in 1993 because of her love for new construction and real estate. Laurie has had a passion for real estate from an early age because her mother was a successful real estate agent in Atlanta in the 70s. After a few years as an on-site agent, she joined a small boutique firm in the Virginia-Highland/Morningside area. With her love for new construction, she also started a building company called The Maverick Group, LLC in 2004 and built homes in Vinings and Brookhaven. Laurie has also acted as the managing broker of an international real estate company that was based in Brookhaven, where she was involved in recruiting and training agents across Atlanta. She holds many sales volume records with her previous company, but her proudest achievement was winning the Company Integrity Award. Before most people heard of the BeltLine or Ponce City Market existed, Laurie was selling in the West End and Poncey-Highlands and touting to her investors that the city would experience a transformation.
Every client and real estate professional she has worked with respects the hard work and dedication she shows in each transaction. They also love the fun and light heartedness that comes with working with her. She has worked with first-time homebuyers and investors and loves helping people buy new construction homes. This is a referral business and Laurie has been selling in Atlanta for 24 years – which says a lot when you consider internet searching didn’t exist she began her career! She has seen the market in all its pitfalls but in all of its glory, too. It is always a great time to buy!
Laurie is currently on The Professional Standards Committee (a three-year term) for the Atlanta REALTORS® Association, where she may be called to participate on hearings regarding alleged violations, commission disputes and other matters referred by the Grievance Committee. Laurie served on the Governmental Affairs Committee, Professional Development Committee, and was on the Leadership Development Committee for the Atlanta REALTORS® Association in 2016. In 2017, Laurie joined the Atlanta REALTORS® Association Trade Show Committee.
She lives in Brookhaven with her husband, Dan, and their two dogs, Jack and Boo, and a cat, Deano. They have been residents of Brookhaven since 2003 and have loved watching it grow into an active city of its own. They love being part of the Brookhaven community, which has a small town feel where you know everyone. Laurie and Dan are involved in several local charities and like to keep up with the civic issues.
