Exclusive Showcase of New Robert Tretsch-Designed Condo and Wm. Coleman Mills Artwork
ATLANTA (April 27, 2009) – Since 2007, Modern Atlanta Home Tour has delighted fans of contemporary architecture, design and urban culture. This year, The Mansion on Peachtree, A Rosewood Hotel & Residence, partners with Modern Atlanta to celebrate the marriage of modern art and architecture while showcasing The Mansion’s exclusive new condo designed by the renowned Robert Tretsch of Harrison Design Associates.
The dynamic 3,700-square-foot residence on the 46th floor of The Mansion on Peachtree will serve as a modern one-week gallery, May 12 – 17, for the paintings of Wm. Coleman Mills. The show, entitled “Patterns: Landscapes of the Sublime, Ridiculous and Contrived,” represents paintings that catalog natural and artificial landscape patterns imbued with meaning, importance and significance.
Preferring the title “painter” over that of “artist,” Wm. Coleman Mills’ work is an exploration of mnemonics. In his own words, Mills is far more interested in “the memory of a place, with its’ inherent inaccuracies and overlays of emotions, than a photographic recollection.” An avid outdoorsman, Mills draws inspiration from hours spent in the broomsedge fields, pinoak forests, salt marshes and grass flats of the American South. He combines the saturated colors and organic forms of this natural world with the regulating lines of his architectural education to create richly textured compositions deeply imbedded with memory and place. More information about Mr. Mills can be found at wmcmstudio.com.
Mr. Mills will be on hand to present his work and answer questions as part of a special reception on Tuesday, May 12 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. in Unit 46B of The Mansion on Peachtree. All paintings are available for purchase with a portion of art sales donated to CARE. The event, which includes cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, is open exclusively to Modern Atlanta 09 attendees and special guests.
