I know we’re going through a stressful time right now, so I’ve made a list of ways to help us get through this together:

1.      Pack my stuff in a box with my name on it so you can find what I need first. You know how cranky I get without my bone and my bed!

2.      Everything will seem strange to me for a while. So, please… keep my old food. And don’t wash my bed or my blankie. Unlike you, I actually like that smell.

3.      I can’t believe I’m actually saying this…but find a V-E-T in our new neighborhood. Have the old V-E-T fax my records to the new one. And do it BEFORE we move, okay? You don’t want me whining and crying like some cat if I get sick do you?

4.      Get me a new address tag for my collar so, if I get lost, I can make it back home.

5.      Is it a long drive to the new place? Make sure I can stay in the hotel with you – please, oh please, oh pleeeease! Get a new carrier that fits in your car, not that old thing you bought when I was 10 pounds lighter (But I’m not fat!)

6.      Let me stay in your new bedroom or somewhere quiet for the first few days. When you put everything away we can tour the new place together. I need to get used to it slowly with you at my side.

7.      Look, I like you. I don’t want to leave. But let’s face it – some things I simply cannot resist: like windows without screens, unlatched gates, fences with holes. Fix them! Maybe look into one of those invisible fences, too. They’re so cool – it’s like living inside a force field!

8.      Follow our old schedule in the new place, at least for a while. You know what I like. Let’s stick with the program.

9.      New stuff is confusing. I might – I’m saying might — have an accident. Let’s go for lots of walks that first week to take the pressure off both of us.

10.  Moving is hard, so spoil me. You know those little chewy treats? They really help take the edge off.

Wags and kisses,

Your loving dog
