Dancing Stars of Atlanta, an event held recently at the Loews Atlanta Hotel in Midtown, raised a record $226,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association’s Georgia chapter. Chaired by Joanne Truffelman, the competition/event was modeled after the hit TV show “Dancing with the Stars” and aided Alzheimer’s disease research and treatment. More than 500 guests attended the gala. Former Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin won the Judge’s Choice Award for her dramatic Argentine Tango dance with Melbin De La Cruz, and Jenny Pruitt, CEO of Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty, captured the People’s Choice Award for personally raising more than $51,000. Jenny, paired with professional dancer David Spencer, danced the Viennese Waltz to “You Light Up My Life” by LeAnn Rimes.
