FRIDAY
Festival: The sound of bagpipes will fill the air, tartan is the fabric of choice and caber tossing, stone put, sheaf toss and other events will test the skills of competitors at the Stone Mountain Highland Games and Scottish Festival. It’s happening Oct. 15 and  16 in Stone Mountain Park.

Performance, kids: Disney On Ice Dare To Dream brings many of your favorite Disney princesses to the ice at Philips Arena through Oct. 16.

Stage: The Atlanta Shakespeare Company presents “Macbeth,” a tale of betrayal and the lust for power and one of the bard’s best known works. The show runs through Oct. 30 at the New American Shakespeare Tavern.

Stage: A mother struggles to hold on to her family, a son struggles to let go and a daughter struggles to find her way in the world in this Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie.” Georgia Shakespeare present the beloved classic at Oglethorpe University through Oct. 30.

SATURDAY

Festival: Highlights at the Candler Park Fall Fest include live music, activities for kids, food trucks, a tour of Candler Park homes, an artists’ market, costume competitions and the Great Leaf Monster. It begins at noon Oct. 15 and 16 in Atlanta’s Candler Park.

Festival: In the air, there will be balloon rides and competition racing at the Harvest Balloon Festival. On the ground, enjoy pumpkin carving and painting, hay rides, face painting, games, concerts and raffles. The fun happens 1:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Sterling on the Lake in Flowery Branch.

Festival: AutumnFest is an art show and artists’ market featuring more than 60 regional artists and craftsmen selling original paintings, folk art, metal sculpture, ceramics, photography, glass, jewelry and textiles. It begins at 10 a.m. Oct. 15 and at noon Oct. 16 across from City Hall in Avondale Estates.

Festival: Celebrate the eighth year of the Brookhaven Arts Festival, which will feature some of Atlanta’s finest female musicians, including Gwen Hughes, the Anne Marie Perry Band and the Women of Rock (Caroline Aiken, Diane Durrett and Donna Hopkins). The fest happens 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 and noon-5 p.m. Oct. 16 in Apple Valley Park behind the Brookhaven MARTA station.

Festival: A pumpkin patch, haunted house, karaoke and lots of great food are among the very good reasons to head to the Pace Academy Annual Fall Fair, which takes place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 15.

Visual art, shopping: Get a head start on that Christmas shopping at the Spruill Center Gallery’s Open Air Artist Market in Dunwoody. It opens at 10 a.m. Oct. 15.

Festival: The 40th year of the Georgia Apple Festival includes more than 300 vendors with handmade, hand-crafted items, as well as many on-site demonstrations of how selected types of crafts are made. An antique car show is held at the Civic Center on Oct. 8. The parade is at 10 a.m. Oct. 15. The fest is centered at the Ellijay Lions Club Fairgrounds in the North Georgia town of Ellijay.
