Tuxedo Park is an elegant oasis of homes within the city of Atlanta. While it is in the northwest quadrant of Buckhead, bordered by West Paces Ferry Road, Northside Drive, Blackland Road and Roswell Road, it truly feels as if you are in a suburban setting. Tuxedo Park is adjacent to the Buckhead business sector but does not have any commercial development within its boundaries. The majority of homes in Tuxedo Park are single-family homes on large, sprawling lots.  There are also two new townhouse developments along the eastern border at Roswell Road and Habersham Road.

In the 1920’s several of Atlanta’s leading citizens built permanent residences in Tuxedo Park. Although originally developed as a summer retreat, the advance of the automobile allowed people to move further north.  When Atlanta mayor, Robert Maddox, moved his permanent home from downtown Atlanta to West Paces Ferry several of his prominent friends followed.

West Paces Ferry was a major trade and transportation route even then.  These citizens built sophisticated estates designed by the leading architects in Atlanta, such as Hentz, Reid and Adler, and Philip Shutze. The Governors’ Mansion is on West Paces Ferry and is open to the public for tours. Today there are many styles of architecture but they are bonded together by the beautiful landscape. Whether designed by architect or gardener, lawns are broad and abundant with hardwoods, pine and flowering trees, shrubs, flower gardens and walks.

Tuxedo Park is stunningly gorgeous. Barbara Morgan, an agent in our Buckhead office, says, “It is on par with Greenwich, CT and Beverly Hills, CA.  The residents are very protective of the tree canopy and take great pride in their lush lawns and beautiful gardens.  The tree-lined windy streets are just seconds from the hustle and bustle of the city.  It is truly a joy to be able to enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Tuxedo Park while right in the city.”
