Stage: “Tyler Perry’s The Haves and The Have Nots” is a tale of love and honor involving a financially struggling young husband and wife and the wealthy couple that hires them. Shows are at 8 p.m. June 8-9 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
Convention, pop culture: If you’re a fan of all things science fiction, don’t miss the Sci Fi Summer Con, which happens June 8-10 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Atlanta Perimeter Northwest.
Baseball: It’s Alumni Weekend at Turner Field, and the Braves will retire former pitcher John Smoltz’s number in an on-field ceremony beginning at 7 p.m. June 8 (right before the Braves face off against the Toronto Blue Jays at 7:30 p.m.). Many more former Braves will be on hand signing autographs beginning at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, June 9, fans can catch members of the 1992 Braves square off against other Braves legends including Sid Bream, Otis Nixon, Phil Niekro, Dale Murphy, Francisco Cabrera, Bobby Cox and Rick Camp in the second annual Braves Alumni Softball game. Gates open at 1 p.m. for the 2:30 p.m. game. More Braves legends will be on hand to greet fans and take pictures at Sunday’s game, which starts at 1:30 p.m.
Design, home tour: The Modern Atlanta MA12 Design Exhibition and Home Tour Launch Event begins at 6:30 p.m. June 8 at the Terminus Building on Peachtree Road. The $35 ticket includes the home tour. A launch event only ticket is available for $10. Home tour is 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. June 9-10.
Stage: Tom Key portrays the author in Theatrical Outfit’s production “C.S. Lewis On Stage.” Performances are at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. June 8 and 2:30 and 5 p.m. June 9 at the Balzer Theater at Herren’s.
Performing arts: The Golden Dragon Acrobats combine award-winning Chinese acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes and ancient and contemporary music. They’ll perform at 2 and 8 p.m. June 8 at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre in Mableton.
Comedy: Former sitcom star and longtime stand-up comic Christopher Titus returns to the Punchline June 8-10.
Stage: The Atlanta Shakespeare Company continues its chronological run through the Bard’s comedies with “As You Like It.” It runs through June 24 at the New American Shakespeare Tavern.
Stage: Serenbe Playhouse in Palmetto debuts a new adaptation of the beloved Lewis Carroll tale “Alice in Wonderland.” It continues through July 28.
Stage: The Stage Door Players present the operatic farce “Lend Me A Tenor” through June 10 at the North DeKalb Cultural Arts Center in Dunwoody.
Stage: Revisit the ’60s and the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in the Broadway hit “Jersey Boys.” It’s at the Fox Theatre through June 10.
Stage: “Xanadu” is a musical based on the giant hunk of celluloid cheese from 1980 that shoehorned Gene Kelly and Olivia Newton-John into an insanely over-the-top blend of roller-disco and Greek mythology. The show runs through June 16 at Actor’s Express.
History, visual arts: “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” is an updated version of an exhibit that had an earlier run at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center. It features more than 200 artifacts recovered from the wreckage of the ill-fated ocean liner. See the preview of the show, which is on view at the Premier Exhibition Center at Atlantic Station.
Visual arts: In “Create, Destroy, Rebuild,” artists are asked to take a completed work (either old or new), destroy it in whatever fashion they wish, and then re-assemble the remains to create a new piece of art. It continues through June 30 at Beep Beep Gallery.
SATURDAY
Competition: 41 teams will compete in their homemade, human-powered vehicles a the Red Bull Soapbox Race. The motto for this event is “Where fast is good, outrageous is even better.” Pits open at 10 a.m. June 9; races begin at noon on 10th Street at Piedmont Park. Festival: Don’t miss the inaugural year of the Peachtree Hills Festival of Arts, a visual arts-centric festival that takes place in one of Atlanta’s most art-friendly neighborhoods. Check it out from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. June 9 and 11 a.m.-6 p.m. June 10 around Peachtree Hills Park.
Festival: Barrington Hall’s signature event, the Roswell Lavender Festival, will take place on the grounds of the historic Roswell home 10 a.m.-4 p.m. June 9. Experience all things lavender, including fine art, crafts, plants, lotions and soaps, day long classes and demonstrations, photography, food and more.
Festival, beer: The Brookhaven Beer Fest offers more than 150 brews. The $35 admission to this second annual event includes beer tastings. It happens on Apple Valley Road between Dresden Drive and North Druid Hills Road (behind the Brookhaven MARTA Station) beginning at 3 p.m. June 9.
Family, convention: If you’re expecting a little bundle of joy, check out the Baby Shower Expo. It’s happening 10 a.m.-6 p.m. June 9 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. June 10 at the Gwinnett Convention Center in Duluth.
Music: Chris Edmonds, formerly of the Swinging Richards, debuts new songs, a new band and a new CD in the Atlanta Room at Smith’s Olde Bar beginning at 8 p.m. June 9.
Music: Several local musicians with law degrees will take the stage at Variety Playhouse at 7 p.m. June 9 for Lawjam 2012: The Third Annual Battle of the Atlanta Lawyers’ Bands. Check out the story on the annual event, which benefits the Atlanta Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the Atlanta Bar Association.
Music: Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s latest Theater of a Concert performance features composer John Adams’ latest opera, “A Flowering Tree,” at 8 p.m. June 9 at Atlanta Symphony Hall.
Music: Concert “Islands Give Back” at Lake Lanier Islands with 104.7 THE FISH featuring Sanctus Real, The Museum and the Rhett Walker Band. Gate opens at 7pm and Concert begins at 8 pm.

Festival, benefit: Bands, brews, food trucks and more will be on hand for the Spring Fling to Benefit Historic Fourth Ward Park. It takes place 5-8 p.m. June 10.
Music, community: Join in on a venerable tradition at the “144th Session of the June Singing.” The annual Sacred Harp singing and covered dish picnic will happen 10 a.m.-3 p.m. June 10 at Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Alpharetta.
Music: ZZ Top, 3 Doors Down and Gretchen Wilson join forces for the Gang Of Outlaws tour. It hits the stage at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at 7 p.m. June 10.
Music: Former “30 Rock” writer, current “Community” star and former Stone Mountain resident Donald Glover returns home with his musical project and rapping alter ego Childish Gambino. The show begins at 8 p.m. June 10 at the Tabernacle.
