FRIDAY

Stage: Young Actors Playhouse (YAP) presents the Tony winning musical Oliver!  Actors of all ages vividly bring this beloved musical to life.  It tells Charles Dickens’ touching tale of young orphan Oliver Twist! Hungry, homeless and befriended by pickpockets, Oliver searches the crowded streets for the road to true happiness. Can he escape from the clutches of the crime ring and find a loving home? It features the musical theater classics such as “Where is Love?,” and “As Long As He Needs Me” among many others.  Ticket info click here.  Young Actors Playhouse is located at 3372 Canton Road, Marietta, GA  30066.  Show times are Friday October 12  and October 19 at 7pm, Saturday October 13 and October 20 at 7pm, Sunday October 14 and October 21 at 3pm.

Stage: The Alliance Theatre presents the premiere of Alfred Uhry’s new play “Apples and Oranges.” It continues through Oct. 28.

Stage: Georgia Shakespeare revisits the 1936 Orson Welles production of “Macbeth,” which moved the action to the Caribbean with an all African-American cast. The show runs through Oct. 28 on the Oglethorpe University campus.

Stage: “Lovecraft’s Nightmares” offers a different story written by or inspired by the master of classic horror, H. P. Lovecraft, each weekend in October. Presented by the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company through Oct. 28 at the Academy Theatre in Avondale Estates.

Stage: The Center for Puppetry presents the final performances of its annual Halloween special “The Ghastly Dreadfuls: The Last Ghast.” It runs through Oct. 27.

Stage: Center Stage North presents Alfred Uhry’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Driving Miss Daisy.” It opens Oct. 12 and continues through Oct. 21 at the Art Place —Mountain View in Marietta.

Stage: A beloved cult classic gets a makeover with “The Rocky Horror Puppet Show.” It’s at the Basement Theatre in Buckhead through Oct. 27.

Performing arts, families: Characters from “Brave,” “Tangled” and more bring the music to the rink at “Disney on Ice Presents Rockin’ Ever After,” which continues through Oct. 14 at Philips Arena.

Festival, holiday: Stone Mountain Park’s 10th Annual Pumpkin Festival features a pie eating contest, costume dance party and trick-or-treat scavenger hunt. The event runs through Oct. 28.

Stage: Horizon Theatre Company presents the fresh-from-Broadway play “Time Stands Still.” The show continues through Oct. 14. Check out our interview with the stars of the show.

Stage: Bram Stoker’s horror classic gets a modern musical update in “Dracula: The Rock Opera,” which runs through Oct. 14 at 7 Stages Theater.

Haunted house: It isn’t even October, but that doesn’t mean we have to wait for Halloween scares. Netherworld Haunted House is already going strong and the award-winning haunt will continue  through Nov. 3 at the Georgia Antique and Design Center in Norcross.

Stage: A writer revisits several old girlfriends before his upcoming nuptials in Neil LaBute’s “Some Girl(s).” The Pinch ‘n’ Ouch Theatre production runs through Oct. 21.

Stage: A politician weaves a tangled web of lies in the farce “Out Of Order,” presented by the Stage Door Players at North DeKalb Cultural Arts Center in Dunwoody through Oct. 14.

Stage: “Daddy’s Dyin’ Who’s Got the Will,” by Del Shores (”Sordid Lives”), is a fast-paced comedy about a Texas  family gathering to await the  imminent death of their patriarch. The  OnStage Atlanta production continues through Oct. 20.

SATURDAY

Festival: The leaves are turning and the apples are coming in so it must be time for the annual Georgia Apple Festival in Ellijay. It’s happening Oct. 13-14 and 20-21.

Festival: The Candler Park Fall Fest is headlined by Yacht Rock Revue (with Rick Derringer and Derek St. Holmes) and Francine Reed.  It begins at noon Oct. 13-14.

Festival: The 15th annual Oakhurst Arts & Music Festival includes art, music, kids’ activities and a parade at 2 p.m. It takes place 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Oct. 13 at Harmony Park in Decatur’s Oakhurst Village.

Festival: Atlanta Parent Magazine’s Family Block Party includes more than 50 attractions, from craft booths to a mobile petting farm, interactive sports games to pony rides and alpacas, live music to storytelling.  It’s happening 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 13 at Mercer University’s Atlanta Campus.

Festival: Ballethnic Dance Company wraps up its series of “Cheney Street Cultural Cul de Sacs” with its Fall Festival, a block party-style fest that will include performances by Ballethnic’s professional dancers, its students and other local artists. There will also be vendors, music, children’s play activities and home-made treats. It happens noon-6 p.m. Oct. 13 at the company’s home in East Point.

Festival: The Carrollton Fine Arts and Crafts MeccaFest is presented by the Carrollton Artist Guild  10 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 13-14 at the Carrollton Cultural Art Center.

Festival, music: Sweet Auburn Music Fest takes place in downtown Atlanta Oct. 13- 14.

Families: Dynamic Kids Expo will have entertainment, fun hands-on activities and products and services for kids from toddlers to young teens. It starts at noon Oct. 13 at the  Gwinnett Center in  Duluth.

Music: Atlanta Sacred Chorale opens its 28th season with a program titled “It’s About Time” at 8 p.m. Oct. 13 at Emory University’s Schwartz Center for Performing Arts.

Music: English baritone Simon Keenlyside makes his Spivey Hall debut with a program heavy on British composers at 8:15 p.m. Oct. 13.

Dance: Metropolitan Ballet Theatre presents three free performances of the classic tale of a toy maker and his dancing doll, “Coppelia” at 2 and 7 p.m. Oct. 13 and 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center.

Comedy: Comedian Sinbad, who plays the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, launched his career on talent show “Star Search” back in the mid 1980s. He’s at the Cobb Energy Centre Oct. 13.

SUNDAY

Festival: Harvest on the Hooch includes garden tours, entertainment, garden games and samples  of cuisine featuring fresh seasonal produce. It takes place 3-6 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell.

Music: The Michael O’Neal Singers perform Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” with the Georgia Regional Girls Choir; dancers from the Roswell Dance Theatre; and soprano Sherri Seidan, tenor  Adam Kirkpatrick and baritone  Brent Davis. The performance begins as 3 p.m. Oct. 14 at Roswell United Methodist Church.
