5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Buying a Home in Midtown

Around 42,000 people live in Atlanta’s Midtown district, but at any given time, that number practically doubles. During the daytime, people come from all around the Metro Atlanta area to work at companies like Coca-Cola, Equifax, AT&T, Carters, Wells Fargo, Norfolk Southern and Invesco. At night, people come from all over the city to have a drink or meal at one of the country’s top bars and restaurants, see a play at the Fox Theatre or take part in a cultural or arts-centric event at the Woodruff Arts Center, Atlanta Botanical Garden or the High Museum of Art. In other words, there is always something going on in Midtown, making it a great place to live for many people. Before moving here, though, there are a few questions you may want to ask yourself.

Living In Midtown

1. Do I enjoy city life?

There are some people who enjoy living in the city and there are some who do not. If you fall into the latter category, you might be better suited for a neighborhood along the outskirts of Buckhead or even one of Atlanta’s suburbs like Roswell, Marietta or Johns Creek. Life in Midtown is truly city living with skyscrapers, busy streets, bustling sidewalks, business offices and cultural opportunities everywhere you look. Life is fast-paced, and you will want to keep up.

2. What kind of housing am I looking for?

Whether you want to live in a high-rise condo or a revitalized historic home, you can find some of each in Midtown. Best of all, many of them are within walking distance to some of Atlanta’s top dining, shopping and entertainment destinations. There are thousands of condos and apartments that offer beautiful views of the city and world-class amenities. In a neighborhood like Sherwood Forest, you will find beautiful million-dollar homes with lush green lawns, while neighborhoods like Home Park feature early 20th century bungalows that are within walking distance of Georgia Tech and Atlantic Station.

3. Do I like to walk?

Atlanta traffic has quite a reputation, but many Midtown residents don’t have to worry about that. People walk to the grocery store, to the theater, to the nightclub and to the park. You can even throw your favorite sneakers on and walk to work if you want. Of course, you don’t have to walk anywhere if you don’t want to, but if you enjoy a nice stroll, it can make life a little simpler, especially at rush hour. MARTA, Atlanta’s public transportation system, also serves Midtown.

4. Does it make sense for my job?

Midtown, Downtown and Buckhead are Atlanta’s three largest business districts, and each one is home to hundreds of companies, ranging from small start-ups to Fortune 500 corporations. Whether you run your own business or work at a large company, you need to decide if Midtown makes sense. For example, if you work in Sandy Springs, you may want to move further north to cut out some commute time; if your office is in Regions Plaza or One Atlantic Center, Midtown is perfect.

5. Where in Midtown do I want to live?

Now that you have decided that you want to live in Midtown, you need to find a place to live. If you work in a big office, you might consider a condo in the building next to it. Maybe you attend or work at Georgia Tech and want a home in that area. Perhaps you prefer to live closer to Buckhead or Downtown but stay within the boundaries or Midtown. You can even live close to one of your favorite attractions, such as Piedmont Park.
