Named for the intersection of Atlanta’s old trolley line with five city streets, Little Five Points developed into a major commercial district in the early 20th century. Today, it is beloved for the alternative, slightly punk vibe it brings to the metropolitan city. Known to many as the bohemian capital of the southeast, it is home to some of the most diverse, concentrated street art in Atlanta. Visitors to the area can find all kinds of colorful gems by local artists, tucked away in alleyways and on the sides of buildings and store fronts.

Here are a few spots you don’t want to miss the next time you’re passing through!

Dining: For the 21+ crowd, The Vortex Bar and Grill is ranked as having one of the best burgers in America. Don’t be scared away by the “laughing skull” entrance – inside you’ll find an intriguing avant garde design scheme, complete with old car parts and indie art.

Outdoors: Nature enthusiasts can find plenty of green space in the area surrounding Little Five Points. Candler Park lies just to the northeast and links to Freedom Park via the Freedom Park Connector. This paved trail is part of the PATH Foundation’s Stone Mountain Trail – ambitious trailers can enjoy 19 miles from Downtown Atlanta to Stone Mountain Park.

Shopping: Little Five Point’s zoning status as a neighborhood commercial district is particularly favorable to the hip, “mom and pop” shop ambiance that residents and visitors alike can enjoy. A number of delightfully eclectic shops dot the streets, including Wax’n’Facts– a charming vinyl specialist store offering new and used records, CDs and cassette tapes. They are located on Moreland Avenue and have been open since the ‘70s!

If you want to get out and experience Little Five Points for yourself, Candler Park’s Summer Movie Night Series is the perfect excuse.
